A Journey Through Words, Wisdom, and Wonder
A Journey Through Words, Wisdom, and Wonder
The Journey of Phil Voysey: From Global Educator to Life Design Coach
This mission began in 1982 when I had the honour of teaching English and African history to students in Zimbabwe. It was here that I first recognized the opportunity to create a life rich with travel and cultural experiences as an English language teacher.
However, life has its own agenda, and my path has taken many unexpected turns. Over the years, I found myself far from the classroom. I mixed cocktails in a hotel in Canada, lived with a family in Cusco, Peru, and later returned to help a friend establish a home for street children. My journey also led me to serve as the Director of Save the Children Australia’s aid and development program in Bangladesh for three impactful years.
These diverse experiences, working alongside some of the world’s most resilient and resourceful individuals, have profoundly shaped my understanding of human potential. I have witnessed firsthand that it is possible to build lives filled with purpose, meaning, and fulfillment from the most challenging circumstances.
The richness of these experiences has also fueled my creativity. I have written articles, essays, books, and songs. I have performed in plays, produced a memoir, and shared my stories and music with audiences.
Moreover, these journeys have inspired me to delve into various fields such as NLP, psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, yoga, and meditation. I seek to deepen my understanding of the experiences that define us and to explore the thinking and habits that often lead us to settle for lives by default rather than crafting lives by design.

Let’s rewind to 1982 — I packed my bags, boarded a plane to Zimbabwe, and kicked off a two-year teaching contract. What I didn’t know was that I’d also signed up for a life-changing adventure. Turns out, you can earn a living and transform your life at the same time. Who knew? Fuelled by that spark, I followed love to Canada (spoiler: love had other plans), then wandered into Peru to learn Spanish. One thing led to another and — boom — I was living with a local family and eventually running a home for street kids. Peru carved a place in my heart, and I’ve returned again and again. Now, I get to share that magic with others through transformational travel.
Together with my amazing wife and co-adventurer at Creative Traveller (www.creativetraveller.com.au), we’ve created a collection of Peru journeys — including a once-a-year hosted trip that’s packed with meaning, beauty, and just a touch of the unexpected.
And Peru? It opened the door to Bangladesh — where I had the privilege of working alongside local organisations and incredible village women. Through education, healthcare, and microloans, we helped spark real change. Honestly, no one has taught me more about resilience, grit, and grace than the women of rural Bangladesh.
It is the women of Bangladesh, the street kids of Peru and the students I taught in Zimbabwe who inspire my creativity and my drive to make a difference.
